Jeremy Applegarth, Health and Safety Consultant

About Jeremy Applegarth

I set up Applegarth Health and Safety to offer something different from the large, impersonal consultancies — practical, plain-English advice from someone who takes the time to understand your organisation and the people within it.

With a background in Health and Safety across a range of sectors including churches, charities, schools, care homes and small businesses, I understand that no two organisations face exactly the same risks. My job is to cut through the complexity, help you meet your legal obligations, and put in place safety arrangements that actually work in practice — not just on paper.

I am based in the home counties and work with clients across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, North London, London and Essex.

Qualifications & Accreditations

All advice provided by Applegarth Health and Safety is underpinned by recognised, nationally respected qualifications in Health and Safety.

📋

🏅

Trusted by churches, charities and care providers across the Home Counties. From small village churches to multi-site care organisations, clients return again and again because they know they'll get a straight answer, a clear report, and advice that actually works in their setting.

Why qualifications matter: When you hire a Health and Safety consultant, you are trusting them with the safety of your staff, volunteers, customers and visitors. NEBOSH and IOSH qualifications demonstrate that your consultant has been independently assessed to a recognised standard — not just self-declared as an expert.

My Approach

Health and Safety can feel overwhelming, particularly for smaller organisations that don't have a dedicated safety team. My approach is built around three principles:

💬

Plain Language

No jargon, no unnecessary complexity. I explain what you need to know in straightforward terms and make sure you understand your responsibilities — and how to meet them.

Proportionate Advice

Safety measures should be proportionate to the actual risks involved. I won't recommend expensive or complex solutions where simple, practical measures will do the job.

🤝

Ongoing Support

My relationship with clients doesn't end when the Risk Assessment is written. I'm available to answer questions, review changes to your activities, and help you keep your safety arrangements up to date.

Who I Work With

Applegarth Health and Safety works with organisations of all sizes across a range of sectors. Whether you are a sole trader, a small charity, a school, a care home, a church, or a growing business, I can help you understand your obligations and put the right arrangements in place.

I have particular experience working with organisations that run activities involving children, elderly people, and vulnerable adults — sectors where Health and Safety is especially important and where the stakes of getting it wrong are highest.

Get in Touch

Whether you have a specific question or just want to find out how I can help your organisation, I'd be happy to have an initial conversation — free of charge and with no obligation.
